Osteopathic Manipulation Treatment

Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment, or OMT, is a set of techniques used by Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine to diagnose, treat and prevent illness and injury.

Using OMT,  the doctor moves a patient’s muscles and joints using techniques including stretching, gentle pressure and resistance.

  • Soft tissue: You’ll feel stretching and pressure on your muscles.

  • Muscle energy: In this technique, you move your muscles in a specific direction while the DO counters that movement. Think push-pull.

  • Myofascial release: the doctor uses firm but gentle pressure to release tension in the fascia, which is the layer of connective tissue that surrounds your bones, muscles, and organs.

  • Osteopathic cranial manipulative medicine: the doctor applies soft pressure to your skull to stimulate healing.

Medical Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a nearly painless method, done by inserting extremely thin needles into certain points of the body to accelerate healing.   If the symptom is a result of an energy blockage within the body, acupuncture can encourage the body's natural healing response.

Acupuncture is good for lower back pain, arthritis, and has proven to be successful in reducing stress, muscle tension, chronic pain  and helping normalize menstrual irregularities.

Medicare and most health insurances do not cover acupuncture, but  may be covered if you have a (HSA) Health Savings Account.

Please contact your plan first to determine if you have coverage for acupuncture.

Cupping

Cupping therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine in which a therapist puts special cups on your skin for a few minutes to create suction. People get it for many purposes, including to help with pain, inflammationblood flow, relaxation and well-being, and as a type of deep-tissue massage.

Cannabis

For information on setting up appointment for medical marijuana card, please check go to the Cannabis page.  The latest information on the Ohio Medical Marijuana law :can be found on the website below

The state of Ohio legalized the medical use of Marijuana in 2016, in order to access medical marijuana from a dispensary, a patient needs to purchase  a medical marijuana card from the Ohio medical marijuana board  by first  obtaining a recommendation for medical marijuana use for their approved  medical conditions from a physician who has a certificate to recommend.

I obtained this certification in 2018, in order to provide better access for patients interested in alternative and adjuvant treatments to their conventional medical treatment.  I feel this complements our physical treatments available such as osteopathic manipulation and medical acupuncture for non narcotic treatment of  chronic pain conditions.

We can only provide a recommendation letter for the State approved conditions listed below.  You are required to be an Ohio resident and provide actual written documentation of your diagnosis from your main provider managing your con

Preventative Medicine

Preventive medicine is just one aspect of care osteopathic physicians (D.O.s) provide.  Osteopathic Physicians (D.O.s) are fully-licensed to prescribe medicine and practice in all specialty areas.  D.O.s are trained to consider the health of the whole person and use their hands to help diagnose and treat their patients.

Smoking Cessation Program

Acupuncture has been used in the treatment of addictions since a chance observation in the early 1970s that it modified the withdrawal symptoms in drug addicts. Clinical research has yet to confirm whether or not acupuncture is useful in the management of withdrawal.  Acupuncture is considered no different than any other smoking cessation intervention.  Studies of individual experiences with acupuncture describe decreased desire and taste for cigarettes during the initial withdrawal period.

A 20-30 minute medical smoking cessation consultation is part of the first session and will assist us in developing an individualized program for your needs.

Treatment program involves three-four acupuncture sessions over the first ten-fourteen days of stopping aimed at helping patients tolerate the withdrawal effects of nicotine, usually without requiring replacement therapy (i.e. patches or gum).

Management of withdrawal from other addictive substances is not undertaken at this clinic.

The cost of  smoking cessation program is $225 paid at the initial visit and does not include medication or  nicotine replacements which can be prescribed at the initial visit.  .
